Few buildings in Tattenhall and its immediate district were destroyed or damaged during WWII. However, one such building was Newton Farm which was totally destroyed by enemy bombing on 28 November 1940. The City of Liverpool was the target of a sustained bombing campaign in 1940 and the night of 28 November saw a heavy raid on the City with a single incident causing the deaths of 166 men, women and children, when a parachute mine made a direct hit on an air-raid shelter in Durning Road, Edge Hill, Liverpool.
It is likely that the bomb that hit Newton Farm was probably destined for Liverpool. The photograph below shows the farm building before the bombing.
